Councillors

Hellaby Parish Council has adopted a Code of Conduct each parish Councillor has signed a declaration to abide by.

David Latimer

For those of you who don’t know me my name is David Latimer. I have lived in Hellaby close to 40 years, initially on Barrie Grove and latterly on Kevin Grove. Like my wife Maggie you may have seen me, or both of us walking our dog Leo round the fields or estate.

Prior to my retirement I was in education for nearly 40 years working as a Teacher, Advisory Teacher for IT, a Deputy Head and a short spell as Acting Head.

I like to keep myself active and busy, usually walking in the Peak District once a week, looking after my garden, volunteering as a litter picker once a month, working at Wickersley library 2 mornings a week delivering an IT course and looking after our grandchildren,

I have taken on the role as Parish Councillor as I am passionate and committed about our community and the people who live here and wish to do the best I can for all concerned within our village.

Vacancy

Maggie Latimer

I have lived in Hellaby with my husband David for 44 years, bringing up both of our sons in the village, initially on Barrie Grove, then moving to Kevin Grove in 1999. Now two of our four grandchildren also live in Hellaby and they absolutely love to make use of the local park and the adjoining countryside, along with our dog, Leo. This is an important and crucial part of Hellaby which we need to hang on to at all costs.

I like to think of myself as a people person and my long career in Senior management in Education gave me plenty of practise in this. I developed a wide variety of organisational skills, which I feel I’ve put to good use during my time as a Parish Councillor.

As a continuing Parish Councillor I strive to do my best to encourage residents to get involved in safeguarding our community and the land which is precious to us as much as possible. I am used to organising and getting things done, I like to get involved in making improvements at Centenary hall and around Hellaby, where finances allow.

As Parish Councillors, who are all unpaid residents and have been elected to serve the community in Hellaby, we want to do our best to improve Hellaby for all residents, hence developing the recent residents survey. We encourage you to get in touch with any of us if you have any ideas or concerns. We can’t always help, as we only have a very small voice compared to Rotherham Borough Councillors, but we will always do the best we can and at the very least lend a friendly ear.

Janet Law

As a new Hellaby Councillor, I would like to take this opportunity to write a little about myself.

I was born at 96 Bateman Road around the time when the estate was near to completion. Hellaby is a lovely village.

In 1976 I moved to Maltby with my young family.

My Mum still lived here in Hellaby, so I was coming to the village every day calling in on my way up to look after my horses on Cumwell Lane.

In January 2012 I moved back to Hellaby and in May 2015 became a Maltby Town Councillor. I was there up to August 2020 when a place became available on Hellaby Parish Council. I was honoured to accept and I hope that I can do my best for the village now and for future generations.

As a fairly new Parish Councillor, I'd like to introduce myself.

I'm Bob, I have lived in Hellaby for 10 years with my wife Mary. I am the son of a Scottish WW2 Lancaster Bomber Flyer and a Yorkshire lady. I was born in the Highlands and raised in Bramley.

After a good education at Maltby Grammar School I worked in a steelworks chemistry lab before leaving to work in the construction industry for 50 years, mainly running my own company. I spent 8 years of the 1990s working in East Germany (AUF Weidersehen Pet) and eventually retired to Hellaby.

I am chair of the Community group, where I help organise social events. I run the Hellaby Litter Picking Group and help out in the Hellaby Gardening Group. I am the voluntary snow warden for Parkstone cresent. Also, I help my wife Mary with the coffee mornings that she runs fortnightly.

I have joined the Parish Council relatively recently and hope to continue with the interesting work.
